CBD Oil in Northern Ireland: Where to Buy, CBD Laws and More

CBD oil has grown massively in popularity over the last few years, with more than a quarter of a million users in the UK alone.

As we covered in our guide to CBD laws in the UK, CBD oil and other CBD products are legal to purchase, possess and use. This means that you can legally use CBD oil in Northern Ireland for everything from relaxation and anxiety treatment to pain relief.

Below, we’ve listed the best ways to buy CBD oil in Northern Ireland, as well as everything else you should know about using CBD oil in Northern Ireland, from pricing and availability to CBD’s complete legal status in the region.

CBD Oil Laws in Northern Ireland

As we mentioned above, CBD oil is legal throughout the UK, including Northern Ireland. Unlike other substances, the laws in Northern Ireland regarding CBD are the same as those in Wales, Scotland and England.

Like other countries in the United Kingdom, marijuana is illegal in Northern Ireland. It’s referred to as a Class B controlled substance under the 1971 Misuse of Drugs Act, meaning that it isn’t legal for people in Northern Ireland to purchase or use marijuana for any purpose.

THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol — the main active ingredient in marijuana — is also listed under the Misuse of Drugs Act as a controlled, illegal substance. This means that products such as cannabis oil, which contains THC, are illegal in Northern Ireland.

However, cannabidiol, or CBD, is not an illegal substance. It’s not listed under the Misuse of Drugs Act and is not classed as a controlled substance in the UK, meaning you’re free to buy, possess and use it if you live in Northern Ireland.

It’s also legal to possess CBD products that contain trace amounts of THC in Northern Ireland, such as full spectrum or broad spectrum CBD oil. Although these products often contain THC, the THC content is below the legal limit and thus is not in violation of any drug laws.

Cannabidiol (CBD) has even been classified as a medicinal compound by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, meaning it’s viewed legally and regulated as a new type of medicine, rather than being banned as an illegal drug.

In late 2016, the MHRA released the following statement regarding the use of CBD oil in the UK, confirming that CBD is viewed as a medicine rather than as an illegal substance:

“We have come to the opinion that products containing cannabidiol (CBD) used for medical purposes are a medicine.”

In short, it’s completely legal to purchase, possess and use CBD oil in Northern Ireland and in the other United Kingdom countries. As CBD oil does not contain THC, or contains THC in tiny, trace quantities, it is not considered an illegal substance under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Where to Buy CBD Oil in Northern Ireland

There are several ways that you can buy CBD oil, CBD vape e-liquid and other CBD products in Northern Ireland.

The first is to buy CBD locally. In most large towns and cities, you may be able to find shops that sell CBD oil, e-liquids and other products. These products can vary in quality and pricing usually isn’t the best in the market due to the expenses of operating a brick-and-mortar retail shop.

Over the last few years, CBD products have also started to appear in many pharmacies. If you live close to a local pharmacy, you may be able to buy some CBD products there. Again, due to the costs involved in operating an offline shop, prices here can vary.

The most cost-effective option is to buy CBD products online. We sell high quality CBD oil, vape e-liquids, capsules and other products from leading UK and US-based brands at the best prices in the industry in our online shop

All orders of £25 or more from our online shop come with free delivery, including to addresses in Northern Ireland, making it cheap and easy for you to buy CBD products online. We dispatch all orders placed before 3pm on the same day for fast, stress-free and convenient delivery.

Finally, it’s possible to buy CBD products online from vendors based outside the UK. We usually don’t recommend this approach. Not only can delivery take weeks, but product quality can often be poor, meaning your CBD oil or e-liquid may not be optimal for your health.

It’s also important to remember that CBD laws can vary from country to country, meaning that a product you order from overseas may not be legal or suitable for use in the UK. Also, due to the labelling laws in some countries, many overseas products labelled as “CBD oil” may not contain any CBD at all.
