How to Vape CBD Oil Safely and Effectively

Interested in using CBD oil? If you’re considering CBD oil for pain relief, improved sleep or any other purpose, inhaling CBD in vapour form offering a range of advantages.

Most of the CBD oil sold in the UK is in tincture form, meaning it’s designed for use under your tongue. Other common methods of ingesting CBD include CBD capsules, edibles, and even a variety of topical CBD products designed for absorption through the skin.

Vaping CBD allows you to access all of the potential effects of CBD in a faster, more convenient form than the options listed above.

Below, we’ve explained the basics of consuming CBD in vapour form, from which product types you should use to the process of vaping CBD. We’ve also looked at some of the advantages of vaping CBD over consuming it in other ways, from rapid absorption to the convenience factor.

Advantages of Vaping CBD

CBD products that are designed for use with a vaporiser are known as “CBD vape oil” or “CBD e-liquid.” Using a vaporiser to inhale CBD offers a variety of benefits, from simple convenience to faster absorption of CBD oil’s active ingredients. We’ve listed these below:

Convenience and Simplicity

If you’re already used to vaping e-liquid, using CBD oil this way is extremely simple. A diverse range of CBD e-liquids are available (including a large selection in our online shop), making it easy to consume CBD just like you would a nicotine-based e-liquid.

Just like with other e-liquids, CBD vaping oils are available as pre-made e-liquids and as vape additives. This means you can choose between buying something pre-made or adding CBD to your favourite e-liquids for its therapeutic effects.

Adding to the convenience factor, CBD e-liquids are available in a range of different types and strengths, letting you match your choice of e-liquid to your preferences, tolerance for CBD and tastes.

Faster Absorption of CBD

Consuming CBD as vapour allows your body to rapidly absorb its active ingredients, meaning you’ll notice the effects of CBD faster than you would if you used a CBD tincture, CBD capsule or edible product containing CBD.

When you inhale CBD in vapour form, it’s rapidly absorbed by your lungs. The lungs allow for fast absorption of CBD because they’re very low in metabolising enzymes, as explained in this 2004 study

Inhaled as vapour, the active ingredients in CBD oil can reach your bloodstream and start to produce noticeable effects within minutes.

In comparison, when you consume CBD in an edible form — for example, a CBD capsule or gummies — the ingredients in the product need to pass through your digestive tract and liver before they’re absorbed into your bloodstream.

In practical terms, this means that you can use vapour-based CBD with less of a need for any pre-planning than other forms of CBD. For example, if you use CBD for better sleep, it’s totally okay to vape a few minutes before bed — within five to 10 minutes, you’ll be ready to sleep.

On the other hand, if you use CBD capsules or a topical CBD lotion, you’d need to plan at least an hour ahead of time to make sure the CBD has enough time to transfer into your bloodstream and start working.

Improved Bioavailability

Bioavailability is one of the most important factors in any CBD product. It’s also one of the most commonly misunderstood.

Put simply, the bioavailability of a substance is the percentage of the substance that makes its way into your bloodstream and takes effect. You can think of it as the amount of the substance that successfully navigates through your body to reach its target.

Bioavailability tends to vary depending on the administration method that’s used to deliver any substance into your body. Some methods are more efficient than others, often by a significant amount.

For example, an IV injection is 100% effective at delivering medication into your bloodstream — after all, it’s a direct path into the vein. Likewise, methods like intramuscular injection — the type of injection used for a typical flu shot — also have high rates of bioavailability.

Obviously, these aren’t used to administer CBD — they’re just examples of drug administration routes with high levels of bioavailability.

CBD’s oral bioavailability is fairly low, meaning you’ll only get a fraction of the CBD you take in via capsules or edibles if you choose this administration route. According to a 2002 study, just 13 to 19% of CBD consumed orally actually makes its way into your bloodstream.

This makes sense — after all, the CBD needs to be broken down by your digestive system and passed through your liver before it’s able to take effect.

Luckily, things are much better when you inhale CBD as vapour. According to a 2009 study of CBD as a treatment for CNS disorders, as much as 45% of inhaled CBD can make its way into the bloodstream.

This means you’ll actually feel more from the CBD you inhale — all while wasting less — when you consume CBD in vapour form over alternatives such as CBD gummies, capsules, balms, honey sticks and other products.

Value for Money

Although vaping isn’t always the most cost-effective option, it usually provides better value for money than other methods of consuming CBD.

With many CBD e-liquids available for less than £10, using CBD in vape form is an affordable option, especially if you already have a vaping device. This is especially convenient if you only have a limited budget but still want to benefit from the effects of CBD.

How to Vape CBD Oil

Vaping CBD oil is a quick, simple and effective way to enjoy the benefits of CBD. Even if you’ve never used a vaporiser before, you’ll find the entire process simple. To start, you’ll need several things:

  • A vaping device. Just like with other vaping devices, a range of options are available for CBD. We sell vape pens, vape kits and other vaping items for CBD in the vaping devices section of our online shop.

Vape pens are single-use CBD, meaning you’ll use them until the CBD e-liquid content is finished, then throw the pen away. A single vape pen can last for up to 100 vapes, giving you several days or weeks worth of CBD depending on your usage habits.

If you’d prefer to choose your own flavor of CBD e-liquid, it’s better to choose a complete vape kit. Vape kits are designed for use with any CBD e-liquid, allowing you to tailor your usage to your needs.
  • CBD e-liquid. If you use a vape kit, you’ll also need to purchase a CBD e-liquid to use with the vaporiser. CBD e-liquids contain a certain amount of CBD, as well as an added flavor designed to make the experience of vaping CBD more enjoyable.

Many CBD e-liquids are available in a range of strengths, letting you tailor your usage to your needs. We sell a large selection of e-liquids designed for use a your vape kit in the CBD vape e-liquids section of our online shop.
  • CBD vape additives. If you already have a vaping device and a favourite e-liquid, you can use a CBD vape additive to add CBD to it. This allows you to inhale CBD using the e-liquid you already prefer, all while tailoring your CBD intake to your needs.

Like other CBD e-liquids, CBD vape additives are available in a range of strengths. We sell a range of CBD vape additives in our online shop

Using a vaporiser to inhale CBD is simple. The process is exactly the same as using a vaporiser for nicotine-based e-liquid. If you’re using a disposable vape pen, just follow the instructions that are provided with the device.

For a complete vape kit, the process is slightly longer, but not more difficult. First make sure the vaporiser is fully charged. Your vaping device will come with a charger than you can plug into its USB port for fast, easy charging.

From here, follow the instructions provided with your CBD vape kit to fill it with e-liquid and start vaping. Vape kits can vary in design (for example, top fill or bottom fill), making it important that you follow the instructions provided with yours.

Finally, it’s important to make sure that you only use CBD e-liquid or CBD vape additives with your vape kit. CBD tinctures, body oils and other products are not designed for ingestion via a vaporiser and are not safe to use with your vape kit.
